  Red Cross disaster relief, one of many services, focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs.
  DISASTER UPDATE (as of 10/30/12)
  The American Red Cross is currently on the ground continuing its response efforts following Hurricane Sandy. On Sunday night, more than 3,200 people spent the night in 112 Red Cross shelters in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and Massachusetts. The number of people staying in shelters was expected to grow as the storm hit land.
  
  More than 160 emergency vehicles were ready to respond when it is safe to do so, and more than 230,000 ready-to-eat meals have been sent to the area.

• 250 List: Catholic Charities USA
  The national office for local Catholic Charities agencies and affiliates nationwide. Catholic Charities USA provides strong leadership and support to enhance the work of local agencies in their efforts for disaster relief, to reduce poverty, support families, and empower communities. They worked with its local agencies in the days before the hurricane in order “to ensure they have provisions in place to provide for any possible needs Hurricane Sandy may create in their communities,” the group said. Local agencies along the East Coast will be able to provide disaster relief and recovery services after the storm, including food, shelter, counseling and financial support.

So far, 73 truckloads--or 2.2 million pounds--of food and grocery items have been secured, 22 were provided by Feeding America food banks to affected areas along with support personnel. As of 11/2, about $684,000 has been secured for the recovery effort from additional partners including Walmart, PepsiCo, General Mills, Hasbro, and United.

• 250 List: Jewish Federations of North America
  The JFNA Hurricane Relief Fund serves as a national focal point to collect contributions to aid in the recovery and rebuilding in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Represents and serves 155 Jewish federations and 400 independent Jewish communities across North America.

  Israel's emergency medical service organization (similar to 'Red Cross' in other countries).
• 250 List: Save the Children Federation Inc.
  Save the Children Federation Inc - A child-assistance organization working assisting children and families improve their health, education and economic opportunities.
